Web 2.0 is something that stares each and every Internet user in the face on a daily basis. Gone are the days when the sole purpose of the World Wide Web was to gather information, research and (let’s face facts) pornography. The latter, you have to admit, is still the main focus of some users reasoning for logging on to the ‘net.

The greatest thing about the internet itself is there is no demographic. Yes, there are sites that will have a key demographic - but as a whole cyberspace is for everyone. When the internet was just a baby the main perception of it was that it was for geeks to come on to places like iRC and talk all through to the small hours about Star Trek, Star Wars and (before Warcraft came along) War Hammer.

Baring in mind this was only almost a mere decade ago a lot has changed.

If you look at the internet nowadays what do we have? Social networking, blogging (yes, I realise the irony), MMORPG’s, Wiki’s and Auction/Bazzar sites (such as eBay and Amazon).

Social Networking Who do I blame for the birth and comercialisation of Social Networking? Friends Reunited. Friends Reunited was the first mainstream networking site. Reconnecting you with (originaly) people from school. Nowadays they have branched out with a whole plethora of sister-sites such as Genes Reunited.
