Hello World..?
I have no idea how to even start this…
Welcome to my blog, I guess?
I decided to build this site on Jekyll mainly because I use Markdown a lot & am very familiar with it. When I was looking at options I considered what I already knew - and what services/platforms I already knew. I wanted something that was easy to use, and easy to host. I also wanted something that was easy to maintain, and easy to update. I also wanted something that was simple, and didn’t require a lot of overhead. Jekyll ticks all of those boxes.
I’m very familiar with things like Astro and Docusaurus from the work I do with Casterlabs. I have used both when writing our documentation. But I wanted something… minimalist, something that kept with the the aesthetic of the rest of the site. Besides, I host this site on GitHub (which works perfectly) I kind of already know Jekyll pretty well.
It’s 2026 - nobody uses WordPress anymore.
So here we are!
Why a Blog?
I pretty much explained it in the opening blurb on the front page. I’ve always had an interest in web development. This is the *counts* seventh website I’ve had. They were all built without a real purpose (excluding the ones I made when I was a livestreamer) and - as I said - the ones that were blogs were just full of ramblings!
I’m about to start doing some online courses, focussing not just on web development, but also Computer Science. As an aid to my learning, I think a blog sounds like a good idea!
This is not going to be a livejournal full of emo I hate life 🪒🩸 type shit. Not any more. There certainly won’t be any Doctor Who (2005) episode reviews either.
I’m in my fourties now ffs.
