Note #3

Lots of site updates!

🗓️ August 07, 2026

A lot has happened:

So since my last Note I have made a hell of a lot of site updates. Learned a few new things. And pulled out a lot of my hair.

I have:

SCSS

Looking through one big stylesheet for something was getting tiresome. So after a bit of searching I found something on a piece of dark-magic I’d never heard of… sorry, not Horcruxes. It was SCSS.

After looking into it a bit further, I thought it was the perfect utility for me.

It took a couple of hours to restructure and convert everything over and, get it fully semi-functional. I’m still working on it. However, I can find 80% of the things I am looking for much easier now.

Pages & Navigation

Ultimatly this was me learning how to use YAML better. I started with a basic Projects Page and then eventually on to a page about Lego Kits I had built. I was very bored on Saturday afternoon and after tinkering around with a YAML navigation, I thought it would be cool to expand on that.

I made a list of Projects I had been involved in, added some images and dates etc.

Then thought it would be super fun to do the same for all of my Lego. GitHub shouted at me, because some of the image files were a teeny bit too big, so I had to downscale them.

- kit: Millennium Falcon™
  id: 75375
  pieces: 921
  collection: Star Wars™
  date: 2026-05-06

Navigation was pretty straight-forward. I am hoping to expand on it - have things like Blog-specific links within blog pages, proper breadcrumbs etc. All in good time.

The Archive

Not as fun as the Goldeneye 64 game, quite the opposite in fact.

I sat there, for the best part of two hours trawling through the Wayback Machine trying to remember sites I’d had that had a blog. There was only one on there though.

I did however, remember that I also used to have a Blogger site. Thankfully there was a fair bit of content on there I could use.

I’m sure there was a better way to do this, but I literally sat there and copy-pasted all of the entries on there into this site - 2hrs of my life I will never get back!

The Future of Notes

I think this is what I will use Notes for going forwards. They serve as a pretty good purpose for little updates like this.

Blogging about my learning / every day life will be done on the Blog. Notes about how I’ve applied what I’ve learned will be presented in Notes.

We have some structure at last!
