Timeline

I started working as part of the Casterlabs Team in late 2023. Alex (co-founder and developer) and I had worked together on Brime. I was a still a livestreamer at the time, and still used Casterlabs-Caffeinated as one of my tools.

Alex and I had remained friends after the collapse of Brime, and were still in regular contact with each other - usually him just being mean to me for being British.

It wasn't until the existence of Caffeinated had come on to the radars of some well-known YouTubers, that he started to get a bit more traffic - mainly on his Discord Server. He was suffering from success and needed to focus his energies on keeping the lights on, and didn't need to be worrying about dealing with his server. So I offered him my assistance. I'm a bit of a Discord rat, and knew how to keep a server under control.

Evolving The Role

After a few months of being a Moderator for Casterlabs, and taking on several extra duties after the launch of the second Casterlabs product, Casterlabs-Multistreamer I ended up looking after the Billing for this paid product.

At this point my obligations as a Mod had exceeded beyond the title. So, after a quick chat, we agreed that I would transition myself into a more suitible role. I became Community Support, which then evolved in to Community Manager.

With two products now out there from Casterlabs, Alex had an idea...

Writing Documentation

I was asked by Alex one day at the start of 2024 if I was any good at writing copy. I was, it had been one of my tasks at a previous job. I was also pretty good with Markdown and knew my way around VS Code. I'd just never used anything like GitHub before. Don't ask me how I used to publish my old websites, you don't want to know. Just look at me now!

We set up a docs site which was built on Jekyll, called Just The Docs, and eventually moved on to Docusaurus where we have stuck ever since.

Writing the docs for Casterlabs has been the gateway drug that lead me to actually doing something with my own web presence - namely building this site.

The rest is history...

...as they say.
Working with Alex to bring Casterlabs to the people who needed it, and managing the community of users has been one of my greatest privilages - and I say that with no hyperbole, and by far my favourite project.
